You may discard your vehicle if this one has been damaged after an accident or if it has become unusable due to other factors. If you wish not to use it anymore for your personal or professional use , you can put it out of circulation taking it to the scrap metal dealer or you can also opt for giving it to charity as a donation to some interested organization. To comply with the requirements of the SAAQ, you will have to be in possession of a valid ID (drivers licenses with picture) and the vehicle registration. After the transaction you will receive a receipt (Attestation de transaction avec un commerçant form) that you will need to present to the SAAQ as proof that you don't own that vehicle anymore.

Every driver's license is subject of an expiration date depending on the vehicle type and the use you give to it. The expiration date could be from 4 to 8 years, the SAAQ is responsible for notify you before this period, so you have enough time to pay the fee and apply for a renewal (this is apart of the yearly fees you will have to pay to maintain your driving rights). Please bear in mind that driving a vehicle with an expired license is punishable and can lead you to a fine payment or even the subtraction of the vehicle for up to 30 days.

If the case is that your licence has been stolen, and you can identify the thief, please fill a police report as soon as possible and notify the SAAQ so we can help to to proceed on the easiest way to replace your permit. There are going to be some paper requirements to check if you are eligible or not to receive your drivers licence full (with photo and signature - the actual card) or just a driving permit that can last for 12 months. In case you have a Lost or Stolen Registration plate, we can replace it for you. You have to register for an appointment at the SAAQ and maybe a fee will be issued before you get the new one.
